The Music Men - What Can You Play?

Last week I added the Music Men second album called Straight To The Top to the blog.
Thanks to Ozzie Music Man I now have their first album, What Can You Play available.

This album is more indicative of what the guys were about.

They were a group of 10 guys that got together in 1988 to perform an act on the Hey, Hey It's Saturday Show's Red Faces segment. Red Symons scored them 9 and even joined the guys on stage to finish the song.

Red Symons was also one of the main players on the album.

The Music Men landed a great deal for themselves when the Red Faces segment was played on a Qantas in-flight video and a director who saw them was impressed enough that they were hired to represent the new image for Toohey's Gold beer.

Tracks on this one include :-

I Am The Music man (a capella version)
Summer Holiday
Puppet On A String
Build Me Up Buttercup
Do Wah Diddy Diddy
Those Were The Days
Home Among The Gumtrees
Twist And Shout
Two Little Boys
You'll Never Walk Alone
Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life
I Am The Music Man (extended disco version)

An Audio Guide To Australia's Best Music

During a visit to my local "Cashies" yesterday, I came across an unusual compilation album called An Audio Guide To Australia's Best Music.

The album was a 1989 Festival release and was never available to the public in this form.

It was a "Not For Sale - Promotional Use Only" release.

There is quite an interesting list of Australia's artists from the era.

Unfortunately the cover info is not very informative.

Tracks and artists are :-

Zan - It's Your Move
Robyne Dunn - My Spark & Me
Paul Kelly & The Coloured Girls - Dumb Things
Neil Murray - Calm & Crystal Clear
The Saints - The Music Goes Round My Head
Jimmy Barnes - The Last Frontier
Jimmy Barnes - Many Rivers To Cross
Ian Moss - Tucker's Daughter
Chris Moy - Dreamland
Paul Norton - Stuck On You
Yothu Yindi - Mainstream
Jason Donovan - Too Many Broken Hearts
The Mad Turks - Tempers Fire
Nick Barker & The Reptiles - Another Me
Died Pretty - Everybody Moves

I hope you enjoy!!

The Music Men - Straight To The Top

I first saw The Music Men back in the 80's on Hey, Hey It's Saturday, on the Red Faces section of the show.

They were good fun and seemed to enjoy what they were doing.

I've tried to find more info on the group but there isn't a lot to be found out there.

This 1998 deleted album is very much slanted towards AFL football, with an AFL themed version of their infamous "I Am The Music Man".

Tracks include:-

Incredible
I Wanna Play AFL Football
I'm A Saint
For The Memory of EJ
Barnsey's 'Ere
Cool For Cats
Best And Fairest
We Were Tough
Stuck In The Middle
We Are The Black And White Army
Catherine Gorge
What Did Gavin Wangamean?
The Coaching King
State Of Origin Football
Umpires!
We Love Night Football
I Am The Music Man - Version 2358!!
